We received a call this morning about 5:45am from my mother. Scared out of our wits and a little confused to be awakened from a deep sleep in the dead of night she let us know what our son had been up to. Apparently, she had been on the phone chatting with Cooper for about 5 minutes prior. He had called her, not once, but twice already this morning. A little startled to receive a call from him - and at that hour - she asked what Mommy and Daddy were doing. "Sleeping," was his reply. True. That is when she called us on our home phone to make sure that we were okay and that we knew that Coop was awake. We didn't.
We jumped up immediately and ran to find him. He was in his bed. Awake. And chatting with Nana again. Apparently, my cell phone had fallen out of my pocket, unbenownst to me, as I was reading him bedtime stories. He awoke in the middle of the night, found it, and pressed the send button (which he knows how to do). Nana was the last person who had called, so it dialed her back, and he chatted for a while.
It's becoming funnier as the day progresses. At 5:45am, not so much. However, my parents have gotten a good chuckle out of it.
So on the bright side:
1. I'm glad that he was still in his bed and not roaming around the house. The big boy bed is going to kill us yet.
2. I'm thankful for my husband who sent me back to bed and tackled our little early bird himself.
3. I'm thankful that Sean let me sleep in this morning when Coop wouldn't go back to sleep and got them both ready and took him to Chick-fil-a for a little manly bonding and breakfast.
All in all, it could have been worse. Someday, we're going to look back on this and miss these days. I don't think it's going to be today.
